Dr. Thomas E. Stein has been
the President & Chief
Executive Officer as well as a director of the Company since inception as well
as Chief Manager and Governor
of MetaPork from December 13, 1999. Prior to December 13, 1999, Dr. Stein was
the sole shareholder and an officer of Knowledgeware, Inc., whose business was
acquired by MetaPork on December 13, 1999.
Dr. Stein is a veterinarian and management consultant, worldwide, to pork
production and pork processing companies. A native of Illinois, Stein earned
his undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Purdue University and received
his DVM degree from the University of Illinois. He went on to earn a Master's
Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota, studying under
Dr. Al Leman. For his PhD project Stein designed the PigCHAMP record-keeping
system, now a worldwide industry standard.
In 1990, Stein founded Knowledgeworks, a management consulting and software
development firm, in 1990 with core competencies in financial analysis, investment
analysis and business planning for large-scale pork production, industry-specific
knowledge management, and software development products and services. Dr. Stein
has also written several books about swine production and information systems.
He is the author of numerous articles on production system design, production
management, financial analysis, and production modeling for 'new-paradigm'
pork production businesses. In 1995, Dr. Stein introduced the first audiotape
journal for the pork industry. In 1998, Dr. Stein launched PorkNet.com, a leading
business-to-business Web Site focused specifically on the pork industry and
began producing a daily e-mail newsletter PorkNet's Daily Update - which has
become a dominant communication and information source for the worldwide pork
industry.
Tony Christianson was one
of the original founders of MetaFarms in April 1999 and has been a director
since its inception. Mr. Christianson co-founded Cherry Tree Companies, an
investment management and investment banking firm, in 1980, and has been
serving as its Managing General Partner since then. Mr. Christianson is a
member of several boards of directors, including Fair Isaac Corporation,
Transport Corporation of America, Peoples Educational Holdings, Capella Education
Company, Dolan Media Company and Titan Machinery Inc. He earned a B.A. from
St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, and an M.B.A. from the Harvard
Business School.
Dr. Tim Loula, who joined the Board in April
2001, is recognized expert in the swine industry and was instrumental in
creating a new generation
of swine
veterinary consulting services. He received the American of Swine Veterinarians "Swine
Practitioner of the Year" award in 1990 and is also a past president of
that organization. Dr. Loula holds a BA from Drake University and a DVM from
the University of Minnesota and has consulted for companies around the world.
Jim Caldwell was elected to serve as a director in May 2002. Jim has 30 plus
years in technology companies, both technical roles and senior management positions.
Currently, Jim is Chairman and CEO of Scout Information Services, a diversified
information company. He is responsible for Scout's strategic direction and
overseeing its implementation. Previously, Jim was a founder, President and
Chief Operating officer of Fourth Shift Corporation, a NASDAQ company that
develops and sells enterprise application software to mid-market manufacturing
companies. Prior to Fourth Shift, Jim spent 20 years with Control Data Corporation
in a variety of executive management positions. His last position was Vice
President Operations for the Peripheral Products Company, a $1.5B division
of Control Data that manufactured a disk drives, tape drives, printers and
associated supplies. Earlier Jim was a research mathematician at the Naval
Research and Development Center in Washington, DC.
